    The wound burst open, with blood flowing all over Ye Ling’s fingers. However, he did not take his fingers out of the wound. Instead, he buried his nails even deeper! The guard was terrified and in pain. Panic filled his eyes. “My cousin brother, please… Please spare my life on… On Madam Yun’s behalf,” he pleaded.


    After that, he could not speak of another word. The nails finally prated through the aorta on his neck and reached the airway in his throat, thus blocking air from reaching the lungs. The guard gasped for air but still could not breathe.

    He took a look at the people and sighed. “There is no ce in the city for this man, who cared for nothing but saving his own life. Although he was my beloved cousin, I had to sentence him to death for viting thew.” He took another look at the dead body and shook his head in disapproval. “He was, after all, my cousin. I cared for him the most, but what he did was really unexpected. I was truly heartbroken, but still, I had to uphold the importance of ourws. There was no choice for me. With his death, all his mistakes shall be redeemed. Send some men to give him a grand funeral.”


    “Yes, sir!” The four men approached and carried the body away.


    Ye Ling blew his fingers dry before taking another look at the people. “Remember, you may lose your life, but never your integrity. Are you clear?”


    “Yes, Governor! Thew should not be taken lightly,” the people answered in unison while trembling in fear. They knew how well Ye Ling used to treat the guard. If he was not afraid to severely punish someone he cared about, the rest of the people were going to be treated the same as well, if not worse.


    Gu Xijiu seemed impressed by what she had witnessed. Her facial expression certainly seemed to suggest so.The neers looked at each other, not knowing what to do. They were anxious about their safety since the Governor seemed like such a ruthless man.
