《My Favorite Character Proposed a Contractual Relationship》 Chapter 0 What the readers of romance novels want to know is how the two protagonists meet, fall in love, and whether they have a happy ending or not. I also didn¡¯t wish for anything more than that. So it was natural that I got furious after reading ¡¸The Witch¡¯s Curse¡¹. You might wonder what kind of anger I felt after I read the book, but if you listen, you will understand. Before I express my anger, I want to talk about the male lead of this novel. That way, you can fully empathize with my feeling. Nicklaus got cursed when he was a child, though it¡¯s a little bit strange to call it a curse. The curse is quite difficult to explain. Still, since I was the one who brought this up, I have to explain it. A person who receives things from Nicklaus will experience extreme happiness. That was his curse. Wait, what kind of curse is this? Well, this is why you need to thoroughly listen to someone¡¯s words until the very end. The witch who cursed him had said. [The darkness will come, when your life¡¯s fortune runs out by giving happiness to others. Everyone will hate and despise you and you will die painfully at an early age.] Now, at this point, I¡¯m sure you can understand why this is called a curse. You might even think that she¡¯s a horrible witch. However, this witch, who was said to be ill-hearted, pitifully gave away a clue on how to break the curse. [But there is only one person who is immune to your curse. If you win their heart and bear the fruit of love, your curse will be broken.] It¡¯s a little reminiscent of Beauty and the Beast, isn¡¯t it? Well, in this novel, there isn¡¯t a beast. Nicklaus was quite a handsome man. Anyway, he never failed to condemn that witch every day of his life. Even if Nicklaus handed everyone mole¡¯s dung, they would laugh happily. They were crazy. Whenever such an unyielding thing happened, he couldn¡¯t help but wonder how much luck he had left, how many days he had until he died. And so, every time that he saw a stranger¡¯s smiling face, he frowned and got angry. He developed a bad temper as if that stranger sucked the life out of him. Nevertheless, even such ill-tempered humans have regrets in their life. What can he do? He had to obey the witch if he wanted to stay alive. Someone who is immune to the curse. The other half of his life. A woman to share his love with. Nicklaus made up his mind to find that woman. At first, he roughly found a way to do it. He was too young at the time, so he didn¡¯t really understand what a companion for life was. Besides, to find his destined woman, he had to give them a gift and check their reaction, but by doing that he¡¯s wasting his luck. When he had grown older, he felt a little skeptical about a life where he couldn¡¯t choose his spouse. But as he aged every year, he started to get impatient. Because of this, he started to worry he would die at an early age due to making others happy. That¡¯s how Nicklaus underwent a sudden change of heart during his youth. As long as she shows up! If she showed up, he felt like they could easily fall in love. Now, let¡¯s stop here. It seems we¡¯ve introduced the main character enough. Now do you think you can predict the development of the novel? Of course, Nicklaus, who had a painful childhood, met the fated woman, loved, grew up, got married or whatever, and eventually, their ending would be ¡®they lived happily ever after¡¯. That should be the typical novel¡¯s plot, right? However, this novel was insane. It borrowed the cliche and classic settings of a curse and true love, but it abandoned the elegance of a classic romance, which is considered the core. Nicklaus met the fated woman, but in the end he doesn¡¯t fall in love. Of course, at first he wanted to live, so he did everything he could to stay alive. He repeatedly brainwashes her to be blinded by love every night and forcefully insists that the love others talked about was a plausible lie. He does his best to love her like that, but in the end he only experienced vague feelings. Perhaps he didn¡¯t know how to love her because he never loved anyone while growing up. No, leaving all that behind, the destined woman had a fatal problem. The woman¡¯s identity was the witch! She was the mastermind in this novel. The inside story was like this. The witch wanted a powerful heir. A descendant with the quality of a wizard. So she goes to look for Count Solandry, who is from a famous sorcerer¡¯s family, and asked them to give their child to her. That child was Nicklaus. Obviously, as Nicklaus¡¯s parents, they¡¯re unable to give him up, and thus a duel happened. The witch ended up winning the battle against the genius sorcerers and killed both of them. The witch tried to take Nicklaus away with an indifferent heart. However, the child had resisted. There was no way he would follow the witch who killed his parents in front of him. Even if she takes him by force, he wouldn¡¯t grow up obediently as her successor. Eventually, the witch cursed him and decided to become the destined woman herself, and have a child with Nicklaus. What kind of pedophilic story is this?! Why would I read this kind of novel? Are you questioning my mental state? Oh, this is because the truth comes out in the latter part of the novel. I like and prefer an adult man, especially a handsome one! The bigger the man¡¯s physique is, the better! So don¡¯t misunderstand, and please listen to me until the end. Because a more amazing story comes out. Anyway, the beginning of¡¸The Witch¡¯s Curse¡¹goes smoothly as it pretends to be an ordinary romance novel. Whether the witch had a conscience, she appears in front of Nicklaus when he reaches adulthood. Nicklaus, who sees the witch as the fated woman, quickly proposes to her like a dating novice. After getting married, the true beginning of the misfortune unfolds. Nicklaus vaguely guessed that the ¡®fruit¡¯ of love the witch spoke of meant a child. However, for someone who has never loved, he had great fantasies about the concept. He couldn¡¯t have a child with someone he didn¡¯t love. However, the witch¡¯s purpose was to obtain a successor with great magical abilities. So there was bound to be a conflict with each other. A child couldn¡¯t be conceived just by holding hands, and it also wasn¡¯t something that the witch could do without a doctor. Perhaps that¡¯s why Nicklaus kept facing all sorts of misfortunes. Assassins showed up, monsters showed up, even a war broke out¡. As if whispering that his luck was running out now, and the only thing he had left was a terrible and painful death. In the end, Nicklaus surrendered to his curse. He decided to have a child without a fuss. But as soon as the witch gives birth, she immediately throws Nicklaus away. After that, Nicklaus learned the whole story behind the curse. Furious, he casts a final spell on his lifelong enemy. So what happened? They both died. Do you know how ridiculous I felt as I was reading the last page? I got so angry! I mean what kind of absurd story is this. I read it because I thought it was a love story of a cunning woman who seduces a man who never loved. But love broke down, the family collapsed, and even a country was destroyed because of a war. My heart was broken. What should I do for my poor Nicklaus¡ and a newborn baby who shares his blood. And so, even I, who never wrote malicious comments in my life, made one. ?I mean, author. Is this a novel written from hell? If there is any value in this stupid novel with no dreams, no hopes, no courage, and no love, then you shouldn¡¯t categorize it as ¡®romance¡¯. What the readers of romance novels want to know is how the protagonists meet, fall in love, and whether they have a happy ending or not. That¡¯s all. ?But what is this? The writer gave me shit! I paid for your novel, but you gave me shit! I should¡¯ve stopped here. But I started to press the ¡®like¡¯ button crazily. There were over ten thousand ¡®like¡¯. At this point, the curiosity seed had been planted. Eventually, the author made fun of this careless finger once again. At least give me the spin-off! Since the original ending has already gone to hell, please write the ¡®if¡¯ version. What I mean is please write a story about a beautiful and sweet hearted woman, unlike the witch. Then, the ¡®like¡¯ kept increasing. These people are all human beings who have suffered like me. Those who suffered could¡¯ve just ¡®spit on it¡¯ and dropped the novel, but instead they were pathetically crying for a spin-off like a beggar. However, something unexpected happened. An email came from the ¡®Cute Witch¡¯. I should mention, Cute Witch is a pseudonym of the author who wrote this novel. Perhaps this pedo witch is based on his real-life personality. Anyway, the content of the email was like this. ?Just like what Miss Alaina said, I¡¯ll try to write the spin-off. But I hope you can give me a hand. ?Yes? ?The genre is romance, the sub-genre is fantasy. I hope you reach your desired ending. As soon as I thought, ¡®What does this mean?¡¯, my head was spinning terribly. There was a wicked and sinister cackle from somewhere. There was an ominous voice that sent shivers all over my body. [Let¡¯s see if you¡¯ll do it justice.] So that¡¯s how I got into the novel. No, I was reincarnated as a newborn baby. In the beginning, I clearly remembered every detail in the novel. I remembered not only the first meeting of the witch and Nicklaus, but also where and how he proposed, and what kind of hardships and adversities he faced. Isn¡¯t that expected? Since Nicklaus is my favorite character! But I was born as a baby so I couldn¡¯t keep a track of what happened. I kept a record of it in my mind every day, however, I could only remember the big outline. Then I grew up as Alaina Hilt. In her previous life, she regained her lost family and then lived happily and well. As I gradually became Alaina, my memories of the novel faded. If my name was ¡°Who pooped on my head¡±, I wouldn¡¯t have remembered. ¡°Alaina¡±. Right, I am Alaina Hilt. And I will be with Idrian Bielvardo, a promising knight, for the rest of my life! Not to mention, I¡¯m really happy right now. Because I¡¯m about to have the greatest moment of my life! For those of you who are aggravated at the sudden development, I¡¯ll be going back to a few moments ago. Be sure to follow along everyone. Chapter 1 ¡°Ella! Is that true?¡± ¡°Yes, young miss.¡± ¡°Ohohoho.¡± Alaina Hilt, the esteemed daughter of Count HIlt, started to laugh wickedly in broad daylight. Alaina was a woman who looked like a living work of art. Her flawless features were chilling and the peachy skin that surrounded it looked phenomenal. Her sunshine blonde hair fluttered down her back, and her rosy pink cheeks seemed to emanate a flowery smell. Her painted eyebrows and smooth nose seemed to be carved by God with great care, and her thick lips were as elegant and full as a blooming flower. No, in this case, it would be fitting to think that it wasn¡¯t God, but the author who wrote her with good intentions. In any case, Alaina Hilt was a tremendous beauty. As she burst into a peal of laughter, the maids standing beside her couldn¡¯t help but laugh as well. Alaina¡¯s cheeks reddened as she couldn¡¯t hide her excitement. It was due to the good news from her immediate maid, Ella. ¡°Otherwise, there would be no reason for Idrian to show off the ring to young Lady Pemollo.¡± Yes. Isn¡¯t it obvious why Idrian Bielvardo, Alaina¡¯s love, showed the ring to her old friend, Lady Pemollo, and asked her how the ring looked? Because it was to propose to Alaina. As proof, Idrian had announced his visit this afternoon. Now, if you wait a little longer, you will see the fruits of wonderful and brilliant love. Alaina held her chin with a hazy face as she recalled her beloved. She thought of his soft golden hair and jeweled blue eyes. Her heart was pounding. The thrill spread to the top of her head as she imagined the moment when his bigger hand would put the ring on hers. ¡°Did you see it?¡± ¡°Pardon me?¡± ¡°The ring. I¡¯m curious as to what it looks like.¡± ¡°Oh, I apologize, my lady. I wasn¡¯t able to see it properly. I could barely hear their conversation. If they knew I was there, they wouldn¡¯t have taken the ring out. He looked like he wanted to surprise you.¡± Perhaps, that¡¯s true. Sir Idrian is too much. ¡°So cute, why does he think like that?¡± This was why Alaina was laughing like a happy child. Not to mention, Adrian¡¯s arrival was finally announced. Alaina left the room in high spirits. Idrian was seen walking around the mansion halls, instead of the sitting room. He personally climbed the stairs as he tidies up his clothes. ¡°Good afternoon, Sir Id.¡± ¡°Alaina, how have you been?¡± ¡°I¡¯ve been well. What about you?¡± ¡°Thank you for your concern, I am safe and sound.¡± He replied in a low and deep voice. In such a cave-like voice he shook up her heart, Idrian reached out his hand. Alaina smiles shyly and rests her hand on top of his. As their bare hands touched, her heart started to pound. Idrian spoke quietly. ¡°I have something to say to you in private.¡± It¡¯s happening. Alaina swallowed her saliva and nodded to Ella. The quick-witted maid winked immediately. ¡°Then I will prepare the tea. Shall I bring the tea to the garden since the weather is nice?¡± ¡°Yes, that would be nice.¡± When Alaina answered quickly, Ella nodded. The two of them headed to the garden while accompanied by the blowing breeze. Alaina held back her humming. It was clear that Idrian was nervous because his hand was damp with perspiration. He is such an adorable man. Although he was a brave man who won a sword fighting tournament and was bestowed honour directly by the king, he was this anxious in front of her. That was charming of him. Alaina pretended to not notice his nervousness and sat facing him at the prepared tea table. While picking at her well-kept nails, she glanced at Idrian¡¯s face. He looked strangely worried since he was biting his lips. Alaina pursed her lips to help clear her doubts. Why is he so nervous? She felt that she should try to alleviate his concerns. Alaina asked in a playful tone. ¡°Sir Id, why do you look so serious? Are you concerned about something?¡± At those words, Idrian stiffened. His face was full of guilt. He barely managed to speak once Alaina¡¯s eyes opened wide. ¡°The truth is¡¡± ¡°Please speak comfortably.¡± Alaina encouraged him with the softest voice in the world. Then Idrian grabbed her hand. Now. It¡¯s happening now! ¡°I¡¯m always grateful for the love that you give to me.¡± She smiled warmly and lowered her head. What a great start. ¡°It¡¯s painful for me to tell you this.¡± ¡°Huh?¡± A strange sound came out from her, unknowingly. Her face reddened in an instant. Alaina tried to cool off by clearing her throat. Idrian, who stopped talking for a moment, asked in a friendly voice. ¡°Are you all right?¡± ¡°Yes? Yes, of course. But you just said you were in pain¡.¡± ¡°¡..I¡¯m engaged.¡± ¡°What?¡± You aren¡¯t proposing to me? Alaina rapidly blinked her wide eyes. The mood didn¡¯t seem right. Idrian started chewing his lips once again. She felt sad seeing his pitiful state, so naturally, her hands reached out to him. ¡°Sir Id, why are you acting this way?¡± But he pushed Alaina¡¯s hands away. With the big and warm hands that used to escort her, he gently but firmly moved her hands away from him. ¡°Alaina, I¡¯m engaged.¡± At those words her voice had gotten weird. Alaina¡¯s vocal cords trembled uncontrollably as she asked. ¡°With whom?¡± ¡°With Lady Pemollo.¡± ¡°What!¡± What kind of bullsh*t is this. Without realizing it, Alaina¡¯s voice rose close to a shriek. Huh, what did this man just say? Who did he-? With the Riley Pemollo I know? Eng-engaged?! ¡°You are already engaged?¡± ¡°I have nothing to say. It¡¯s all my fault.¡± ¡°Why are you talking about this all of a sudden? How come you and Riley are getting engaged?¡± Like a sinner, he even lowered his head.Alaina shook her head. She couldn¡¯t stand this. She couldn¡¯t stand the sight of her knight, no her prince with his head down like that. ¡°Sir Id?¡± At her call, he raised his head. He grabbed her hand and started hitting his head and shoulder with it. ¡°If this makes you feel better, you can beat me hundreds or thousands of times.¡± Alaina looked at his laughable face with a stunned expression. Even at that moment, the hand that was hitting his shoulder was spread out. I mean, isn¡¯t my hand the one that will hurt instead of his shoulder? His shoulder was like a boulder. Alaina asked in a calm voice while trying to suppress all of the anger rising inside of her. ¡°Sir Id, then¡. the ring that you showed to Riley¡.¡± Idrian whipped his head up to look at her. His expression was full of surprise. It was as if he was asking how she knew about it. So, the ring that he showed to Riley Pemollo wasn¡¯t for Alaina. It was an engagement ring that was dedicated to Lady Pemollo. How could I be so foolish. Once he stopped using her hand to hit himself, either for her sake or his, she shook off his hand. Fortunately, there were no tears. Perhaps it¡¯s because I¡¯m too shocked? Right, the weather is too nice to be dumped by a man that you adore. This doesn¡¯t make any sense. Seeing him looked so distressed, there must be something wrong. It¡¯s not her delusion that today would be the day of the proposal. Alaina barely managed to ask after justifying her misunderstanding. ¡°You are facing certain circumstances, right? Right?¡± ¡°I am sorry.¡± Her anger flared up. The moment she saw Ella, who was stiff as a stone statue while holding the tray, her anger doubled. Alaina demanded despite her shame. ¡°What are you sorry for? Are you sorry for not loving me? Are you apologizing for letting me love you one-sidedly? Is that what this is?¡± If someone else told me this story, I would have been appalled. If they told me that they were dumped and that¡¯s it, then I would think that they felt humiliated and shamefully thought of what they did to deserve such treatment. But when she heard such nonsense from a man who didn¡¯t sound thrilled about the marriage, Alaina wanted to say, ¡®Hmph! I don¡¯t want to deal with a piece of sh*t like you anymore! It was awful to meet you, let¡¯s never see each other again!¡¯, but it¡¯s not that easy to say. They have been dating for over a year. Although formal procedures, such as engagement, were not clear, they were close enough to visit each other one-on-one. It¡¯s not only a matter of him ending things by saying ¡®I am marrying someone else¡¯! It was even more embarrassing that he sprang up at her words and then dropped down to one knee. ¡°No, it¡¯s by no means like that.¡± Even though you were dating me, you had the gall to look at another woman and ask for her hand in marriage? Alaina opened her mouth in confusion. ¡°Then, please explain it.¡± ¡°¡..Although you may think it¡¯s an excuse, I will only ever love you!¡± ¡°No, don¡¯t you dare say that. I need a real explanation!!¡± When Alaina couldn¡¯t hold down her anger anymore, and shouted, Idrian¡¯s entire body trembled. . ¡°As you already know, the situation at my home is not very good.¡± Idrian Bielvardo was the one in charge of taking care of his five brothers. Even though all of them were grown men. There were no titles, lands, or money to split between the six brothers, who were born with poor probability of success. Idrian was a brilliant knight with a promising future, but after he inherited his title, he had nothing to give to the rest of his brothers. More than likely, it was because of his poor connections. However, Alaina was aware of his circumstances. Maybe that¡¯s why she thought the day had come when Ella mentioned the ring. He couldn¡¯t afford to give her jewelry for no reason, so if he prepared a ring then it must have been for a big deal! If she hadn¡¯t heard about it in the first place, she wouldn¡¯t have expected it. In fact, she was prepared to cry and accept the ring, even if he made it from flowers in the garden. Even the dowry was planned to be given to him. Idrian kept speaking without any consideration of her feelings. ¡°As you know, the Duke of Pemollo has no son. He promised to take responsibility for all of my brothers, as long as I agreed to be his son-in-law and live at their property, instead of my own.¡± It was such an unbelievable story that Alaine stared at him with her eyes wide open. So, Riley is the one who asked to be engaged first? He would seriously blame her for what he did? It just doesn¡¯t make any sense. The Riley Pemollo that she knew, was no doubt a very good best friend. Especially since they¡¯ve been close friends since childhood, she even thought that Riley should receive her wedding bouquet. But there¡¯s no way she would make such a ridiculous offer, right? No, even if Idrian is speaking the truth, and that¡¯s what happened, why would you accept the offer? Chapter 1.2 ¡°So, did you agree?¡± Alaina¡¯s voice wavered. Her fist trembled with rage. No, this isn¡¯t anger. It¡¯s resentment, sorrow, unfairness, betrayal, and a bunch of other feelings that drives you crazy all at once. But, after this, something even funnier happened. Idrian, who was still down on one knee, took her hand. As he pressed his lips to her hand, he whispered. ¡°No matter what, my heart will always beat for you.¡± What kind of bullsh*t is this! Alaina looked in astonishment at the golden haired man that was kissing her hand. Was he originally this shameless? What did he just say to me? It¡¯s appalling, isn¡¯t it? But Idrian must have considered her sitting still as her acceptance of his declaration, so he rested his face between her knees. ¡°Alaina¡.¡± He seemed to be acting in a romance film by himself, seeing as his eyes were wet with tears streaming down the sides of his face. His hand slowly and gently crept up and held Alaina¡¯s cheek. At this, she closed her eyes and pressed her lips. ¡°This crazy guy!!¡± Alaina immediately hit his forehead. No matter how promising he was as a knight, he still looked like an idiot when he closed his eyes, stuck out his lips, and tried to kiss her. ¡°You disgusting man! Don¡¯t ever come looking for me!¡± ¡°Ari¡.¡± Even though she had agreed to the nickname he chose for her, he didn¡¯t call her by that name to be polite. A baffled Alaina screamed with all her might to the point where even her chin was shaking. ¡°We awfully met, and let¡¯s never break up again! No, it was terrible meeting you and I¡¯ll never break -, ugh I mean meet¡. Anyway, if you ever show your face to me again, I will rip away what makes you a man!¡± The words come out in vain. However, maybe because of her soprano-tone or ghost-like voice, he was dazed seeing her screaming at him. Idrian didn¡¯t understand a thing anyway. No, I¡¯ve told him clearly that I¡¯ll take away his manhood. That was the point, yes that was enough. Alaina jumped up from her seat and shouted at the corner of the garden. ¡°Ella! Get rid of this unscrupulous thing right now!¡± ¡°Yes, my Lady!¡± Alaina, who saw Ella running towards her, left the garden while stomping her feet. A bird sitting on top of the flower tree flew away in surprise. Alaina looked up to the sky, unconsciously following the bird¡¯s movement. The weather was damn good. Alaina returned to the mansion with balled fists. Ella came running after her, perhaps on a new mission. Alaina closed her eyes tightly. No matter how much Ella means to her, she still feels ashamed in front of her at the moment. Being reminded that Ella had seen the whole freak show, it made her so dizzy that she was shaking. ¡°Lady¡.¡± Ella called out to her in an anxious voice, but she didn¡¯t want to face anyone right now. Alaina shook her hand with a composed face. ¡°I¡¯m tired, so I¡¯ll retire for the day. You should get some rest too.¡± After returning to her room, Alaina fell directly on her bed. She still didn¡¯t cry. However, she murmured curses. The feeling of betrayal even made her teeth shake. It really didn¡¯t matter whether Riley was the one who made the suggestion to him. He still accepted it. The two of them were really getting engaged! It was clearly an excuse, as if someone suddenly jumped through the window and threatened them with a knife and said that he would completely destroy the whole house if they didn¡¯t get engaged. They both betrayed Alaina. All of a sudden, everything felt meaningless. She started to question the relationships between humans. Riley, who she considered her best friend ended up betraying her friendship, and Idrian, who she believed would be her soulmate, kicked away her trust. What is life even about? Can I ever love again? Can I sincerely make friends? Regardless of men or women, a sudden hatred for everyone in the world rose inside of her. As expected, only family matters. And including the employees who took care of her, talked to her, and made her laugh. That was it. It was time to try and heal her broken heart with another kind of love. Just in time, her lovely younger brother opened the door and entered her room. ¡°Ari! You stole my diary again, right!¡± ¡°This cute and arrogant little man. Who are you to call your older sister as ¡®you¡¯!¡± Demian strode inside her room with gallant steps. He was dressed in a full-dress uniform, unlike his usual attire. He was a 10-year-old boy, but he had long arms and legs so he looked quite mature. Of course, his face was still filled with baby fat. Although his face was chubby, his face looked like an angel, and one couldn¡¯t resist kissing his cheeks when he wasn¡¯t angry. Nevertheless, now that he was here to pick something up, his face looked like he was poisoned. Ah, he was looking for his diary. It didn¡¯t bother her much. ¡°¡.what? Why is your face so ugly?¡± ¡°In this case, you should have said ¡®why do you look down?¡¯ or ¡®why do you look unwell?¡¯¡± ¡°¡¡.You look ugly right now.¡± ¡°¡¡± What was the point of arguing with this kid? Alaina ignored Demian and buried her face in the pillow. ¡°What is it?¡± Demian approached her and pushed his face near the pillow. Alaina turned her head the other way without a sound. The bed shook due to Demian coming onto the bed. He jumped and pushed his face against his sister who was lying on her stomach. Alaina murmured helplessly. ¡°Ah, why.¡± ¡°To observe how ugly you are.¡± ¡°Am I an insect?¡± ¡°I¡¯m not just looking at insects.¡± ¡°I suppose so.¡± ¡°Don¡¯t grumble and tell me what¡¯s going on.¡± Alaina thought she would say, ¡®Ha. Please just leave me alone¡¯, instead her mouth was already spewing out the series of humiliating events that had happened today. At some point, Demian¡¯s face became crumpled. He gradually frowned to the point where she wondered if he could see through the gap of his closed eyes. Alaina grinned at the face of a strict, solemn, and serious young master. ¡°Who¡¯s the ugly one now?¡± ¡°Are you kidding me?¡± ¡°No, I¡¯m not kidding.¡± ¡°What kind of bastard would do that?¡± If Demian had called Idrian a ¡®bastard¡¯ before this morning, I would have given him a good night¡¯s sleep right away. She would have pinched the cheek of this snarky little boy, asking how he dare insult her beloved. However, now Alaina was in desperate need of her brother¡¯s brazenness. ¡°Keep swearing. More! More! More!¡± ¡°Why don¡¯t you just do it yourself?¡± Alaina hugged him with a deflated look. Demian struggled as he became her stuffed doll. But he couldn¡¯t beat his sister¡¯s strength just yet. After she tickled Demian¡¯s side a few times, he surrendered and stayed still. She gave her brother a big and wide hug. ¡°As expected, only family is always there for you.¡± ¡°Did you realize that now?¡± ¡°My precious little brother.¡± She gifted his forehead with kisses, while he thrashed wildly with disgust. ¡°Let go of me! Don¡¯t cling to me like that!¡± ¡°Ugh, just let me hug you.¡± ¡°No! I can¡¯t breathe! Let go of me!¡± ¡°I¡¯m sad.¡± Alaina¡¯s voice sank mournfully. Demian sighed and stopped resisting. Although he didn¡¯t hug her back, he didn¡¯t get out of her embrace. After staying still for a while, Alaina suddenly spoke. ¡°Demi.¡± ¡°What?¡± ¡°Will you let me stay in this house even if I don¡¯t get married?¡± ¡°That¡¯s up to you.¡± ¡°What if your wife doesn¡¯t like it? What if your sons and daughters hate it?¡± ¡°You know how old I am, so why are you talking about that already? Also, I¡¯m not going to marry that kind of person.¡± Tears welled up in Alaina¡¯s eyes, she was so angry that she couldn¡¯t cry before. She stuck out her lips and started sobbing. Once she started bawling, she hugged Demian even tighter. ¡°I knew it, only family cares¡¡¡..¡± *** That¡¯s how Demian suffered from Alaina for a while. Every time he did something, she came chasing him saying ¡®my brother¡¯ ¡¯my brother¡¯, and he was getting tired from it. ¡°Ella, Libby! Can¡¯t you get this human away from me right now?¡± He saw his sister¡¯s maids as frequently as his own maid. Finally, the day when he could get out of Alaina¡¯s arms came. It was the prince¡¯s birthday party. Before then, Alaina spent more than two months inside the Count¡¯s residence. There weren¡¯t even any common tea parties. She didn¡¯t invite anyone over nor did she go out. It was because she knew very well that curious eyes would follow her movements at every social gathering. Although she was not a princess, there was no one in the social circle of nobles who didn¡¯t know her. There was no way that they didn¡¯t know Alaina, whose beauty was like a sculpture. And about Idrian who was dating her. Since Bielvardo¡¯s esteemed son and Pemollo¡¯s esteemed daughter were engaged, naturally attention was drawn to Alaina. She hated it all, whether it was their mocking smiles, their sympathy-filled glances, or the eyes of the men who wanted to court her. If she could¡¯ve missed the prince¡¯s party, she obviously wouldn¡¯t have attended today. Alaina sighed, wishing the ground would swallow her up. Once she stopped coming to the gatherings, she became more than reluctant to attend them again. It felt like something was poking at her. But she had to attend today. Even in the royal family, where there was a precious late-born son, a grand banquet would always be held on his birthday. Furthermore, Demian was one of the prince¡¯s companions, and he was also the little prince whom she had seen many times before. That was why she couldn¡¯t miss it. Yes, let¡¯s go confidently despite what happened. She had to show them that she didn¡¯t care at all what they were complaining or gossiping around. She sat in front of the mirror like that. However, her resolution itself felt full of vanity, and the feeling of emptiness struck her again. Alaina faced her haggard reflection in the mirror. It was as if she was looking at her inner self. Said the woman in the mirror. ¡°Right, I¡¯m a vain person. I¡¯m a snob. I don¡¯t want to look shabby. I can¡¯t show anyone that I got my heart broken and my friendship betrayed!¡± ¡°Mi, miss¡¡± ¡°That ******* man. I will make him regret his actions!¡± Libby, who was standing behind Alaina with a comb, quietly backed away from the young miss at her vulgar words. However, Alaina called her. ¡°Libby!¡± ¡°Yes.¡± ¡°Please do me a favor again!¡± Hearing her determined voice, Libby gave a solemn nod. ¡°Yes!¡± Chapter 1.3 In a large room with only a few pieces of furniture, there were two men in the room. One was a young man in a white cloak while the other was an older man dressed neatly in a suit. The younger man was a tall, slim, and handsome man. He had bright silver hair which contrasted with his black eyes. But if you looked closely, his eyes were actually dark brown, though only a few people could get close to him. He was wearing white clothes even with a white cloak, which made his whole body seem to glow quite brightly. On top of the white clothes were jewels embedded in gold buttons. The clothes were outrageously flashy. However, the man had a strange atmosphere to the extent that such clothes didn¡¯t seem to be excessive. ¡°Master.¡± ¡°What?¡± The empty space in which the two men stood was oddly enough an office. The office was placed in a strange corner inside the mansion of Count Solandry. It was strange to see that there were only three servants in such a large mansion. There were a total of five people living in this house, including Ewoldan the butler. Three servants, Ewoldan the butler, and the owner, Count Solandry. Count Solandry was only a count in name, as he barely did anything as a head of a household. His estate was managed by a caretaker, and he stayed in the capital without any particular position. That didn¡¯t mean he was an unemployed man who did nothing and only played around. He was a genius wizard, who was not only known in this small kingdom but also throughout the continent. That man was Nicklaus, a handsome and ill-tempered man. The person, that for so long, we have been waiting for. Ewoldan spoke to his master who was sitting in a careless manner. ¡°I think we need to discuss the gift for the prince.¡± Nicklaus¡¯ snort echoed throughout the office. The owner of the dreary mansion sat arrogantly in an elevated chair, as if he were a king. He was the owner, so he was kind of like a king. Of course, that didn¡¯t correspond to his actual status. Nicklaus, who sat with his legs crossed in the elevated chair, wore a crooked smile. The butler seemed to be used to this since he had a calm face. ¡°Even if I give him dog poop he will love it, what¡¯s there to discuss?¡± ¡°But you should still save your face.¡± Nicklaus once gave a branch with bird droppings to a young lady that was pining for his love. It wasn¡¯t actually a gift. But she loved it so much she even slept with it, once her brother found out the truth, he asked to duel with Nicklaus. Of course, he ignored it. He could silence and finish him off as easily as scratching his nose, but he didn¡¯t. He would definitely like it. He would start simpering as if he forgot he had been angry. He hated the sight of someone being happy. As someone rejoiced for no reason, he would suffer a little earlier. So, he didn¡¯t want to give anything. Not only did he hate giving things to others, he felt disgusted just by seeing someone smile as well. It was clear that he wasn¡¯t in his right mind. But what can he do? He didn¡¯t want to die even in such a cheap and annoying life. So he had to meet the fated woman as soon as possible. Although he had no clue, even the sign of her coming couldn¡¯t be seen. Thinking about it made him lose his mind again. What kind of curse is that? Destiny? Lifetime luck? A life that could be easily swayed by irrational things. It was terrible. However, even though it was difficult to accept, what was given to him was a ¡®cold¡¯ reality. The witch has had numerous records of mysterious curses before, and their will has always been fulfilled. Moreover, he had already experienced the curse personally. So many people were disgustedly ecstatic in front of him. As long as that was happening, he had no choice but to believe that the rest of the curse¡¯s mystery would come true. Of course, that didn¡¯t mean he succumbed easily to the curse. Who¡¯s this body¡¯s owner? He was. He was the owner of the tower, the man of fire, Nicklaus Solandry. Obviously, he had been researching the curse on his own ever since he was a child, and after reaching a high position, he even created a department in charge of digging up information on the curse. Nevertheless, he didn¡¯t get any results. ¡°You take care of it.¡± Nicklaus barely hides his displeased expression. He jutted out his chin as if to tell him to go out and search for a gift. It was better not to meet people. If you spent time with someone, they always expected something more from you. He wasn¡¯t talking about gifts to convey one¡¯s heart. Of course, Nicklaus didn¡¯t do that. Apart from the curse, he was not the type to do that kind of thing. But he didn¡¯t know if it would be different with the fated woman. Anyway, even the act of serving him became really uncomfortable. For example, when Ewoldan accidentally picked up his clothes, the butler would smile and burst into laughter due to the curse affecting him. No matter how hard Nicklaus tries not to be attended to, sometimes he forgets. It was fortunate that Ewoldan didn¡¯t happily run around about it. The butler was used to this situation more than anyone else, so no matter how excited he felt, he didn¡¯t show any reactions. Nicklaus shook his arm enthusiastically toward his butler. It meant to go out quickly. But instead of going straight out, Ewoldan added. ¡°You don¡¯t have to worry about giving the gift by your hand.¡± ¡°Of course. But still, you decide yourself. I don¡¯t know what a child would like.¡± ¡°Yes. Also master,¡± Nicklaus blinked as if asking was there something else. At first glance, he had an arrogant face, but it was known that he had always looked like that since he was a young master. Ewoldan spoke bluntly with a smile on his face. ¡°All of the famous members of the royal family will gather at the banquet.¡± ¡°So?¡± ¡°You should find that person before it¡¯s too late.¡± ¡°I¡¯ll take care of it.¡± ¡°You seem to be getting more worried as you get older. I¡¯ll take my leave now.¡± Nicklaus had a grim face without even looking at him. He was 25 years old this year. Even if Ewoldan didn¡¯t mention it, that problem always occupied a corner in his head. When eating, sleeping, doing research, and even in a dream, a woman with her face covered in fog always appeared. Perhaps it was a man. No! Nicklaus frowned and shook his head. It was as if he was trying to steer away from the notion. Anyway, after he became an adult, he desperately looked for that fated woman. That¡¯s why he gave a branch with bird droppings to the young lady, even though he wasn¡¯t interested. Because he had to check. People usually thought he was playing with magic tricks that others didn¡¯t know because he was an excellent wizard, but that wasn¡¯t the case. He lost everything because of the witch. His parents, as well as all of his family, were gone, except Ewoldan. He lost the warm care in his childhood, his relationship with other human beings, and perhaps his warm personality. No, that personality might not have existed at all. Anyhow, he had never had any intimate physical contact with women until he was 25. He occasionally attended social gatherings in crowded places, though he never even danced once. He wasn¡¯t very sociable so he hated being in those crowded places, and among them, he thought it was the worst to sway his body in a place with a lot of eyes. However, he wasn¡¯t sure if he would get better even if he met the fated woman. How does it feel to fall in love at first sight? No, if he met her, would he be able to recognize her at a glance? Nicklaus was lost in thought with a sullen face. She used to meet him in his dreams, but she was always covered in mist and he couldn¡¯t see her face. She didn¡¯t even let him hear the sweet sound of her voice. Only letters would appear above the fog surrounding her. Nevertheless, he felt like he was going to fall in love. However, Nicklaus broke his own imagination. ¡°It¡¯s ridiculous. This is all delusional.¡± But, if the witch wasn¡¯t trying to play with his life, wasn¡¯t the fated woman supposed to show up at this point? There would be no point if she showed up when they were old. No, it might be meaningful if he could survive until then. Anyway, even knowing how old she was, what she was doing, and when she was going to appear in front of him, seemed to eliminate his ten-year-old burden. He sat absentmindedly and continued his delusion, but he soon got up from his seat. There was something he used to look into whenever he was feeling frustrated. He approached a chest of drawers on one side of the office. When he opened one of the drawers, a small box could be seen. It was a jewelry box. It was made of velvet and was very soft to the touch. He slowly opened the box. Inside of it were two diamond rings that sparkled under the light. It was prepared right around his coming of age. Nicklaus didn¡¯t know the circumference of her fingers, so he made two rings to match her ring finger. It was because he was thinking that if the ring was too small and didn¡¯t fit her, it would surely hurt her feelings. ¡°Even though I don¡¯t know who you are, I¡¯m sure you are very considerate.¡± Of course, he shouldn¡¯t rule out the possibility that her fingers are thicker than that. If such a situation occurred, he would put it on the little finger. They could get a properly fitted ring later. The preparation had to be thorough because he didn¡¯t intend to let her go. Never, never, not even in his dreams! For a moment, a soft smile lingered on his face, which always had a stiff expression. But it didn¡¯t last long. With a crumpled face, he put the box back in the drawer. ¡°I¡¯m becoming more delusional each day. At this rate, I won¡¯t last longer than a couple of years.¡± He already had an unhealthy mental state. Excessive delusions were forbidden. The jewelry box, which was placed in such a sensitive drawer, would come back to the light in a few days. It was the birthday of the prince. This was a day that Nicklaus had secretly awaited, even though he pretended to hate it. Just as you have to look up at the sky to see the stars, shouldn¡¯t you go to a crowded place to find a lover? Nicklaus left the mansion with the jewelry box in his arms like a talisman. ©¥©¥???©¥©¥ ¡°Count Hilt and Count Hilt¡¯s daughter, Alaina Hilt.¡± The Count and Alaina walked together when the usher called out their names. The outdoor garden of the palace was already crowded with many people. Demian who came earlier was probably hanging out with today¡¯s main character, the Prince. They headed to the banquet hall in the garden. When the father-daughter pair appeared, dozens of eyes stared as if they had been waiting expectantly. It seemed their attention would continue until other greater nobles or the royal family came out. Before they even headed to the center of the crowd, someone came up to greet them. Chapter 1.4 Translator: Silvia Editor: Sarcasm ¡°Hello, Count Hilt and young lady Hilt.¡± ¡°Oh, it¡¯s been a while. How¡¯s your father?¡± ¡°He went to the holy ground so he couldn¡¯t attend today, but I came here in his stead.¡± ¡°I see. Your father must feel reassured.¡± Alaina didn¡¯t know him very well, but his father seemed to know the amiable young man. Loras Ismal, a young knight of the Ismal family, was famous for having a rich and prosperous land, as well as being one of the people that Count Hilt liked very much. He was friendly and knew how to develop his own talent without depending on his family. There was nothing to criticize in the young man, with his honest and hard-working impression, natural constitution, and pure character. Besides, he was the first to personally greet them, so Count Hilt naturally saw him in a good light. When the Count¡¯s small talk was over, Alaina politely greeted him. The Count smiled delightedly. He also knew about the recent change of heart that Alaina was going through. Although he didn¡¯t intervene with his daughter¡¯s personal affairs, he was still concerned as a kind father. His daughter hadn¡¯t been out for a while, so he wondered how much people had talked on and on about her. At times like this, when a young, agreeable man like Loras came first and was paying attention to Alaina, he couldn¡¯t help but have good feelings for him. His daughter didn¡¯t seem to be interested, but it would serve as a diversion anyway, so the serpent-like Bielvardo would be neatly forgotten. Therefore, the Count laughed happily and left Alaina to Loras. ¡°Young people need to gather with other young people. Since there is such a bright youth here, this father can leave for a moment, right?¡± ¡°Pardon?¡± ¡°Sir Loras, can I leave Alaina to your care for a while?¡± ¡°Yes, I¡¯ll do my best so you don¡¯t feel worried.¡± Alaina held back a sigh and smiled. Although her hate of love seemed to get worse day by day, it didn¡¯t mean that she would abandon all social activities. She couldn¡¯t show her disdain for such activities too obviously. When her father disappeared to where the other family heads gathered, Loras greeted her again. ¡°It¡¯s an honor to meet you.¡± ¡°I¡¯m more honored.¡± The two had a conversation about the weather, the mood of the banquet, the splendor of the royal palace, and other topics that weren¡¯t of much interest. Thanks to that, it seemed that they were quite friendly from a distance. Of course, Alaina was wishing to herself that Demian would come. It was then, while they were walking and talking about various things. Under the shadow of a beautifully shaped garden tree, a familiar man and woman stood. Standing by the fountain was Idrian and Riley. Her steps came to a standstill. Alaina¡¯s feet stopped as if nailed to the ground. Even after two months, that day¡¯s anger soared in an instant. No, it was even worse than that day. She couldn¡¯t hear the sound because it was too far, but she could see Idrian was smiling widely and talking to Riley. Riley was also nodding her head, shyly avoiding his gaze. Idrian grabbed her wrists and splashed water on them. Riley twisted her lips with a troubled look. There seemed to be a faint sound of laughter. ¡°That¡.¡± A voice was heard next to her, she came to her senses. Shame came upon her. How pathetic was it to stare at them from far away ¨C what would Sir Loras think? Was he thinking how pitiful she was, how pathetic of her? Nevertheless, Alaina couldn¡¯t stop her gaze. The two people who were splashing water at each other and joking around were lovers, it was clear to anyone¡¯s eyes. That ******* was the one who pushed his lips in front of her even though he said he was engaged to another woman. So if she was in her right mind, she should consider herself lucky that she didn¡¯t have a deeper relationship with that man. She had to laugh at him and see how well he did after doing all of that. Or, perhaps she should go to the fountain to wash her eyes since she had seen a pair of unlucky cockroaches. But Alaina just vaguely recalled the memory of that day. ?¡.Although you may think it¡¯s an excuse, I will only ever love you! ?No matter what, my heart will always beat for you. If it was a damn disease, perhaps that human was a severe patient. ¡®I will only ever love you¡¯, ¡®no matter what, my heart will always beat for you,¡¯ what kind of sh*t was that? It would be like Coco, Demian¡¯s horse, becoming a unicorn with a burning mane. It was then that Idrian¡¯s face was facing this way. He had a puzzled look on his face. Sensing the change, Riley followed his gaze. Yeah, what kind of face would you make at me? Alaina now openly shot a glare at the two people in earnest with crossed arms. She felt that Loras, who was standing next to her, was getting restless. Her green eyes were shooting out lasers. Perhaps, a fitting description would be an insecticide beam being directed at the pair of cockroaches. Then Riley looked straight at her and linked her and Idrian¡¯s arm. However, it was Riley¡¯s naive and innocent look that angered her more than their intimacy. Riley cautiously looked up at her with her chin lowered and her eyes slightly raised, as if she were too fragile to handle Alaina. Alaina twisted her lips. But she quickly shot a gentle smile. She didn¡¯t want to show her grieving self in front of them. She looked up at Sir Loras standing beside her, retracting her gaze from them. ¡°Sir Loras.¡± ¡°Yes.¡± ¡°I¡¯m a little tired, so I¡¯m thinking about going inside.¡± ¡°I¡¯ll escort you there.¡± ¡°No. It¡¯s okay.¡± He tried to say something more but stopped. It was because he could see Alaina¡¯s eyes reddening. As long as he was sensible, he couldn¡¯t insist and hold her back anymore. Alaina turned around with an awkward smile. She wanted to flee into the building right away, but there were two pairs of eyes staring at her. She needed to appear like she was fine. Did you think I¡¯m going to be in a bad mood and run away? No! Never! Alaina walked to the building with gentle steps. But as soon as she entered the shade, her tears fell. With her eyes open, she quickly brushed them with her fingertips, but the tears kept coming out. God damn it. She couldn¡¯t even control her own body anymore. Alaina took a quick step inside before anyone could see her. Inside the building, there were several terraces by the garden. There was no door, but the curtain with an insignia was draped around it, which functioned to somewhat give privacy from others. It was still possible to see if there were any people inside through the shadows slightly reflected under the curtain, however. Alaina walked with a light step, covering her face with one hand at her sudden outburst of tears. After passing a few terraces, she finally found a shadowless space. She went inside as quickly as possible. Her makeup would be ruined if she let her tears roll down. She couldn¡¯t see her own face, as there was no mirror around. It would be troublesome if her tears flowed down her cheeks. So as soon as Alaina went through the curtain insignia, she bent down to her waist. Her tears didn¡¯t flow, but slightly formed under her eyes and fell to the floor. Her dazzling blonde hair poured down in front of her face, but it didn¡¯t matter. Since no one else saw it, there was no problem with such a weird position, which made blood rush to her head. That was her mistake. ¡°What are you doing?¡± A cold voice broke through the terrace. Alaina was so surprised that she collapsed. Her face was seen through the gap between her scattered hair. Her tears that hadn¡¯t been cleared flow down and make two lines of tear tracks on her cheeks. Meanwhile, the man who spoke out, Nicklaus, was extremely embarrassed. He himself knew that his personality was terrible. However, surely it wasn¡¯t enough to make a person cry through a single word? Besides, it was that woman who came in randomly. He was simply leaning against the railing and observing the people outside. What more, he didn¡¯t think he said anything about it?¡. Wait, did he swear? Without him knowing? Because of his increasingly strict personality, it wasn¡¯t possible for him to say things unintentionally to the extent he wasn¡¯t aware; perhaps he had to diagnose himself with a serious condition. No, before he started worrying about his mental state, he had to deal with the woman who looked up at him in surprise and flat out started shedding her tears. He pulled a handkerchief out of his breast pocket with a haggard face. ¡°Why don¡¯t you¡. wipe it?¡± The woman touched her face with her hands in surprise. Then she stood up, slightly ripping her dress. ¡°I didn¡¯t know anyone was here, that was rude of me.¡± ¡°You don¡¯t need this? My hands are getting numb.¡± Alaina picked up the handkerchief and thought to herself, ¡®who is this person, and why is he so casually impolite?¡¯ First of all, wiping away the tears was her main priority. ¡°Thank you.¡± ¡°Then get out of here.¡± Alaina, who was trying to wipe her face, frowned while wondering if there was really a human like this. Of course, she was in the wrong at first. But she didn¡¯t open someone¡¯s curtains and intrude on their business ¨C at best, she just came into an occupied terrace. However, he suddenly spoke informally and even gave her an order, when she obviously wasn¡¯t feeling well. Thanks to that, she did something she wouldn¡¯t normally have done. Alaina, who had dabbed her cheeks with his handkerchief, then blew her nose on purpose. As expected, the man¡¯s face crinkled. He looked as if he was seeing something very filthy. Alaina snorted and folded the handkerchief. She then pushed the handkerchief onto the man¡¯s chest. ¡°I¡¯ve used it well.¡± She turned around and left the terrace without looking back. Nicklaus frowned and picked the handkerchief on his chest with his fingertips. It was a hotbed of filthiness. ¡°It¡¯s so disgusting.¡± Nicklaus threw his handkerchief out of the terrace without hesitation. It didn¡¯t fall very far away, however. He took off the upper part of his suit with his hands. Then he froze like a stone statue. There seemed to be lightning striking inside his head. That woman, even after receiving his handkerchief, frowned. She wasn¡¯t happy to receive what he handed over. What it meant was very clear. She was that woman. The fated woman that he was looking for. A woman who will put a leash on him. The very person that he will truly fall in love with, or must fall into. Nicklaus¡¯ heart suddenly throbbed like crazy and he even staggered for a bit. Due to his dizziness, he had to hold on to the handrail to recover his breath. but he soon came to his senses. This was not the time to do this. He didn¡¯t know her name, her age, or where she lived. If he missed her now, he had no idea when he would see her again. He had to find her. Chapter 1.5 Before Nicklaus was about to run out of the terrace, he decided to stop himself. He lifted the silver staff that he always carried with him. As the golden jewel at the end of the staff glowed, the handkerchief that had fallen on the garden soil floated into the air. Nicklaus quickly caught it. He even kissed the wet handkerchief as if he never threw it away. Of course, he kissed the clean surface after he folded it well. Nicklaus hugged his handkerchief with a sweet face, as if he had no idea that his actions were creepy. Then, he ran out of the terrace at a fast speed. There weren¡¯t many people passing by in the spacious corridor. Not many people were there to take a rest, since the banquet had just started not too long ago. He randomly moved aside the curtain and checked the inside of each terrace. It was only to identify one person, so it took less than a second to check each terrace. People became frightened by the sudden action, but they couldn¡¯t say anything when he moved the veil immediately. Either that or they were still processing the whole thing, but he had already left. Anyway, he went on with his business. Sometimes people would recognize and greet him, but he ignored them. Finding her was his only priority. It was when he checked the ninth terrace. The man and woman, who were kissing each other passionately, moved apart as soon as the curtain insignia was pushed aside. The face of the man who was interrupted soon became distorted. ¡°What is this?¡± Nicklaus ignored him and moved on to the next terrace. However, the man followed him out, probably because he disturbed the couple¡¯s secret time together. Nicklaus, who was about to open another curtain, turned his head to an irritated voice from behind. ¡°I asked you, what are you doing?¡± When the commotion broke out, several people walked to their curtains and peered into the hallway. Nicklaus noticed the gap between each curtain and identified the faces of those who put their heads out. After being ignored twice, the man came over rolling up his sleeves in the process. ¡°What exactly are you doing now?¡± It¡¯s annoying. Nicklaus frowned and rummaged around the inside of his pocket. He was thinking of giving something as a gift. However, all he had was the ring, that he carried around like a talisman at big events, and the handkerchief which was smeared with her bodily fluids. Both of them were very precious things, so he had no intention of giving them away. Nicklaus held back his temper and roughly ripped off one of his buttons. His neat and well-fitted suit opened slightly. He placed the jeweled gold button into the man¡¯s hand. ¡°Are we okay now?¡± For a moment, the man was confused, but then he suddenly looked down at the button in his hand with a bright smile. As if caring for something precious, the man caressed the button, nodded, and returned to his original terrace, smiling like a madman. Nicklaus quickly turned around and started searching again. However, despite checking all the remaining terraces, he couldn¡¯t find the woman. His heart seemed to break. But it was not time to give up. It hadn¡¯t been long since the banquet started, so she probably didn¡¯t go home yet. He just needed to search outside and find her. In an instant, Nicklaus left the building as if he had wings. Meanwhile, Alaina stood with Loras at an awkward distance. A few minutes ago, Loras was waiting for her outside the terrace. After standing alone, wondering where she went, Loras approached her as soon as he found her. Alaina covered her face while thinking she should¡¯ve used the handkerchief that she was given. His face looked embarrassed, perhaps because of the remaining traces of tears on her face. ¡°I don¡¯t dare face the Count.¡± It was she who became more embarrassed. Alaina shook her hand with a bashful look. ¡°No. I¡¯m sorry that I left all of a sudden.¡± ¡°I would be glad if you could give me a chance to make it up to you.¡± Alaina headed to the banquet hall as it was difficult to squeeze out her refusal. Around that time, the prince and other nobles arrived. The king personally gave a celebratory speech and words of blessing, then thunderous applause broke out. After the celebratory speech ended, the banquet began in earnest. The melody created by the court orchestra spread throughout the garden. Soon people began to gather on the circular marble floor. The ball was about to begin. Alaina had no intention of dancing, so she took a step back and looked around. After she found Demian, she saw the right opportunity to part with Loras. Suddenly, Loras reached out his hand. ¡°Would you like to dance to a song?¡± ¡°Oh, I¡¡¡¡± She wasn¡¯t in the mood to leisurely dance right now. Besides, his eyes were burdensome to look at. However, as soon as she tried to show her refusal, her eyes met with a pair of brown eyes staring at her in the distance. Riley was looking at her, blinking her pretty doe eyes. Her face lacked any expressions, so she didn¡¯t know what Riley was thinking. Her sense of defiance sprang up. Alaina jutted her chin and held the hand in front of her. At first glance, Riley¡¯s expression seemed to harden. Alaina settled among the people without worrying about it. The music paused, and soon the waltz began with the gestures of the conductor. This was the first time that a stranger was putting his hand on her waist and she didn¡¯t pay attention at all. Alaina was preoccupied by the panoramic view over Loras¡¯s shoulder. Idrian and Riley didn¡¯t even dance until the beat was over. They just stood together and talked closely with each other. Alaina¡¯s gaze soon caught at the unexpected misery. She just hoped this event would end soon. But as soon as she turned her eyes away, Riley showed how much she enjoyed Alaina¡¯s glances. She stared at the larger hands wrapped around her waist and the swelling hem of the dress with each turn. And soon she moved away. Even after Riley and Idrian left, there was another pair of eyes chasing Alaina¡¯s every movement. The owner of the eyes didn¡¯t stop following her even when the waltz was over. Just as the waltz was over, Alaina finally found her brother. She used her brother¡¯s name and finally left her place. So Demian was regarded as a ¡®little boy who could never be left alone¡¯. As Alaina strode toward her younger brother, the cello concert that everyone loved, began. It was written by Bryman, the head of the court orchestra, and featured a cheerful second half in contrast to the lyrical introduction. The beginning was low and soft. Alaina shook off her bad feelings at the familiar tune. Then she tapped Demian on the shoulder. ¡°What?¡± ¡°What do you mean ¡®what?¡¯ It¡¯s your sister.¡± ¡°You surprised me.¡± Alaina smiled as she ruffled her brother¡¯s hair. She just felt that she had to be comfortable like this so she wouldn¡¯t be conscious of those traitors. It was quite childish. She didn¡¯t want to worry about it anymore, so she was going to have a little chat and return home. It was a banquet in good weather. People were actively wandering around and conversing with each other, and on the other side of the banquet hall were row tables lined with food. Demian, who arrived at the palace in the morning and chatted away with the prince, glanced at the other side of the banquet hall as if hungry. Alaina noticed his gaze and pushed his back. ¡°Go eat.¡± ¡°No, it¡¯s okay.¡± ¡°Why? There are foods that you like, aren¡¯t there?¡± ¡°¡..bees are flying near it. I don¡¯t want to get close.¡± It was inevitable for bees to fly around sweet foods because it was outdoors. Even if the servants chased them out, the bees would quickly return again. Demian stared at the little uninvited guests with an unpleasant face. Alaina, who was feeling better, giggled at her younger brother¡¯s expression. ¡°Oh my, little master, you are afraid of bees. What should I do if you can¡¯t eat because you¡¯re scared of bees?¡± ¡°Don¡¯t tease me.¡± ¡°Would you like your sister to bring you food?¡± ¡°¡..don¡¯t regret it if you get stung later.¡± He grumbled but he didn¡¯t say anything else to stop her. Alaina smirked and walked toward the table. Demian then shouted. ¡°I¡¯m thirsty too!¡± ¡°Okay.¡± Alone, Demian monitored what Alaina was picking up. Then he pouted his lips. I can¡¯t believe you¡¯re treating me like that without any dignity! Besides Demian, there was another pair of eyes looking at Alaina. They were the eyes that had been following her since the waltz. Soon the eyes turned to Demian. Nicklaus quickly rolled his narrowed eyes. Over the deep cello, ensemble instruments could be heard stacking up in the background. The tempo began to jump to the sound of the music. The little boy in the navy suit resembled the woman, having similar blonde hair. They probably were family. Since he didn¡¯t have the courage to approach the woman recklessly, Nicklaus changed his target. He approached the little boy, swallowing dry saliva. He walked silently without realizing it. It felt as if he had become a kidnapper that lures a child. The small back of his head was shining brightly under the light. As he neared the child, he ripped off another button. It was a kind of bribe. His jacket was now wide open. Leaving only one button on his stomach, he reached out. No, he exactly stretched out his cane. The jewel at the tip of the cane tapped the kid¡¯s shoulder. Demian sharply turned his head. A tall man was standing right behind him, dressed in white from head to toe. Demian frowned at the gleaming jewel before his eyes. He took a step back in vigilance and said in a wary voice. ¡°What can I help you with?¡± ¡°You¡¯re quite an unusually cute little boy.¡± For Nicklaus, it was a compliment that he racked his brain for. However, it was a compliment for a child, but a compliment that was hard to accept as an adult. So if a child thought that he was already an adult like Demian, then it wouldn¡¯t be received well. ¡°Why did you call me?¡± The boy with round cheeks like a squirrel raised his eyebrows. Nicklaus was flustered. There was only one thing he could do at this time. Nicklaus pushed forward the button he was holding in his fist. Demian pursed his lips and stared. Alternating his stares between the button and the eyes of the man who suddenly approached him. What is he supposed to do? ¡°What is this?¡± ¡°Take it.¡± The wary little boy didn¡¯t take the button. Although it was a jeweled item, there was no reason to receive an item that was given from a stranger. The change in the tune began to steepen. The musical scale ran down the slope and bounced. Something was bouncing inside Nicklaus¡¯ head. He didn¡¯t want to hold the boy¡¯s hand that he met for the first time, but he didn¡¯t know how to coax him. Eventually, he grabbed Demian¡¯s smaller hand and pushed the button in. ¡°No, why are you giving¡ Wow¡.¡± Demian¡¯s expression soon melted down. He looked down at his palm with admiration, as if he never wore a harsh expression. Only then did Nicklaus feel relieved. This bloody curse has been helpful at times like this. Chapter 1.6 Translator: Silvia Editor: Sarcasm ¡°Did you like it?¡± ¡°Yes, totally!¡± ¡°Then, I can ask you a few questions, right?¡± ¡°Yes, please go ahead.¡± Nicklaus raised his elongated finger and pointed to the other side of the banquet hall. There was Alaina, who was scrambling to avoid the bees. ¡°Do you know that lady¡¯s name?¡± ¡°That woman in the blue dress?¡± ¡°Yes.¡± ¡°That¡¯s my sister, though?¡± Nicklaus asked in a raised voice as he really wanted to explode the ground with his staff. ¡°The name?¡± ¡°Alaina Hilt. Why are you asking?¡± Alaina. Alaina Hilt. Nicklaus chewed the name as if savoring it. He looked satisfied for a moment, then he furrowed his eyebrows and spoke. ¡°Is she seeing anyone?¡± ¡°Are you talking about my sister?¡± ¡°Yes.¡± Suddenly Demian¡¯s expression became strange. The magic¡¯s effect was almost gone. But, Nicklaus has not heard all of the answers to his questions yet. He then ripped off the last button. The jacket was completely open now, and the button was immediately transferred to Demian¡¯s small hand. Demian fiddled the button and smiled bashfully. ¡°So, is Lady Alaina Hilt currently dating someone?¡± ¡°Not right now.¡± Now? It wasn¡¯t an answer that he liked, but it was a good situation. Nice, it was worth trying. With a fast tempo, the band¡¯s performance was coming to a close. Nicklaus seemed pleased with his answer, since he seemed to float in the air after a small hop. Demian, who finally came back to his senses, looked up at Nicklaus. Until just now, he felt very happy so he answered everything that he asked, but somehow he felt uncomfortable. At least he needed to clarify to whom he gave his sister¡¯s name to. It was embarrassing to change his attitude as easy as flipping his hands, so Demian asked in a quiet voice. ¡°But who are you?¡± The man¡¯s mouth drew a line. It was a perfect smile as if drawn. He lowered his head and said, staring straight at him in the eyes. ¡°The one who will be your brother-in-law.¡± ¡°¡¡whaat?¡± Before he knew it, Alaina came back with a full plate. Perhaps she forgot what her brother said, because she didn¡¯t bring any drinks. Demian had to ask who that man was and what kind of relationship they have for him to say that he would be his brother-in-law. He asked his sister, who was within speaking distance. ¡°Ari! What kind of¡.¡± He looked to the side but the man was already gone. Demian looked around as if he was possessed by a ghost. However, he couldn¡¯t find the man who was just next to him. ¡°Huh? What?¡± Alaina asked, holding out a plate. Demian received the plate with both hands while furrowing his eyebrows. ¡°What¡¯s wrong? It¡¯s not food that bugs were sitting on.¡± ¡°No, that¡¯s not it, are you dating anyone?¡± Alaina¡¯s expression rapidly rotted at her brother¡¯s words. What nonsense is this little shit talking about? ¡°Didn¡¯t you see me staying at home all this time?¡± That was a fact that Demian knew very well. He even ran away to the palace because he was suffering from his bored sister. ¡°No, but a man just came to me and asked for your name.¡± ¡°So?¡± ¡°After I told him, I asked who he was because I felt uncomfortable, and that man said he is going to be my brother-in-law.¡± ¡°Whaaat?¡± Alaina had goosebumps at that moment and looked around, wrapping her forearms around her. Who is playing such a terrible joke? Could she have a stalker out there? It couldn¡¯t be Idrian. There¡¯s no way Demian wouldn¡¯t have recognized him. But except for him, there was no one else who could make ¡®being your brother-in-law¡¯ as a joke. ¡°No way¡¡± Loras Ismal? She doesn¡¯t think he would have said it because he seemed quite decent, but no one else came to mind. Then, why did he ask for her name in the first place? There was no way he didn¡¯t know her name. As soon as Alaina was about to be immersed in thought, Demian asked. ¡°Why? Do you know who it is?¡± ¡°Was he the one in the dark green suit?¡± ¡°No, he was wearing white clothes.¡± White? She couldn¡¯t think of anyone wearing white. Alaina looked around the banquet hall with her arm crossed. There were many people in white dress shirts underneath their outer clothes, but there was no way her brother would have said white clothes. Alaina stopped thinking and scolded her younger brother. ¡°Why are you giving my name to someone you don¡¯t know? Since when have you been so friendly?¡± ¡°Why didn¡¯t you bring anything to drink!¡± ¡°What? ¡®You¡¯ in a crowded place? ¡®Youuu¡¯?¡± [T/N: Demian just straight up calling Alaina ¡®you¡¯, he should refer to her as noona (sister). We didn¡¯t include ¡®noona¡¯ in other converstation cause it¡¯ll always end up with ¡®sister¡¯ in every conversation] Demian looked around his surroundings and stuck his tongue out at his sister. ¡°Stupid sister.¡± ©¥©¥???©¥©¥ Nicklaus, who returned from the banquet, was half out of his mind. His excitement was at its peak. He immediately pulled the bell¡¯s string and as soon as Ewoldan opened the door and appeared, he spoke. ¡°Alaina Hilt. Please investigate her.¡± Ewoldan who was holding the door knob stopped moving at his master¡¯s unfamiliar way of speaking. Did he say ¡®please investigate her¡¯ instead of ¡®investigate her¡¯? Aside from the content of the request, the sentence itself was new for him. But his master was acting as expected. He was raising his eyebrows as if he had run out of patience. ¡°Are you not able to hear me from this distance anymore? How old are you now?¡± Others might not believe it, but that was also a way of his master expressing his worries. As evidence, Nicklaus strode toward him instead of raising his voice. Ewoldan closed the door and faced his master. He wondered why the name of Count Hilt¡¯s daughter was mentioned. ¡°I heard. But what do you want to know? I¡¯ve only known about the daughter of Count Hilt¡¯s love affair.¡± ¡°You know her?¡± ¡®Her¡¯. It was a very subtle guideline. It was a foreign word that didn¡¯t seem to come out from Nicklaus¡¯ mouth. Whoever it is, the term ¡®that woman¡¯ would be more appropriate for him to say. ¡°She is famous. Since the Master isn¡¯t interested in high society, we only have one little boy as our informant, but there is no noble family and the royal family who doesn¡¯t know the daughter of Count Hilt.¡± ¡°But I haven¡¯t.¡± Of course, it depended on each noble. However, Ewoldan didn¡¯t bother to dispute it. ¡°Why does everyone know her?¡± Nicklaus unconsciously licked the corner of his mouth and bit the right side of his bottom lip. Everyone knew her except Nicklaus? Even though he only went to one or two events, he consistently went to big events in the year. It became odd that he didn¡¯t know about her all this time. Ewoldan looked up and smiled next to his master who couldn¡¯t hide his expression well. In fact, his current mood just kept escalating. Seeing his master suddenly inquiring about women, he started to get a sense of it. Ewoldan sneaked a smile and asked questions. ¡°I haven¡¯t seen the woman, do you have any business with her?¡± ¡°Yes.¡± ¡°I can assume the reason then.¡± Nicklaus blinked for a moment. The gray eyes, which seemed to hold a shadow, gradually rose upward. He looked as if he had hidden that woman inside his eyelids. He rolled his eyes and got lost in his thoughts, as if that would make him recall her better. There was a clear face like a sculpture between the scattered blonde hair. The sharply arched eyebrows danced a little, and below the eyebrows were eyelids that covered her eyes. The dense eyelashes were as beautiful as flowers in full bloom, and the watery eyes shone as if they had swallowed spring. Her lips were blood red and the tears flowing over her rosy cheeks were admirable. Before he knew it, he was savoring the short moment with his eyes closed. Then abruptly opened his eyes. Something was wrong with this. If he was really attracted to her crying face, he should have reacted at that moment. But at that time, he only thought of kicking out a woman who was crying in embarrassment. Nicklaus tapped his cheeks. Isn¡¯t he creating false feelings of falling for her? It was clear that the lack of female presence that had accumulated over the years was blurring his mind. Nicklaus tried to erase the bewitching face from his brain. However, the woman in his dream slowly came out of the fog. The letters that used to replace her voice flew away with the fog as well. He felt so good to the extent that he got dizzy. As if his ten year old burden has gone away, did he really need to suppress this feeling? She was the woman of fate anyway. Even if he didn¡¯t like her, he had to find her good points and he would willingly pay for it too. ¡®Why should I turn a blind eye to it if she is so enchanting that it makes my mouth water?¡¯ Nicklaus changed his attitude as if he were turning his hands upside down. Thumping the floor with his staff, he said. ¡°This body already knows that she is beautiful. Don¡¯t be cheeky, just find out more about her.¡± He mumbled that he was busy and left the office first before Ewoldan even left. He was headed to the bedroom. He fell like a log on the bed and closed his eyes. Nicklaus kept repeating the same scene over and over again until he fell asleep. Not once did he grow bored. ¡°Alaina¡.¡± He said her name out loud as if he had been missing her for a long time. He was pleased with the movement of his lips and tongue as he called her name. Thus, Nicklaus fell into an absolutely enchanting dream. ©¥©¥???©¥©¥ He had to patiently endure it for a few days, but finally Ewoldan came with the report that he had been waiting for. Nicklaus, as usual, sat in a raised magnificent chair. However, today, his legs were not stretched out as usual. He had his elbow on his knee with a serious face as if he was having a strategy meeting for war. But there was no dignity in this scene. His crossed fingers and the smooth chin touching them were noticeably trembling. ¡°Shall I read the report?¡± Nicklaus nodded with a quivering face. Ewoldan slightly cleared his throat and picked up his monocle. He was at the age where his eyesight was diminishing. He read aloud a thick sheet of paper on his hands. ¡°Name, Alaina Hilt. The eldest daughter of Count Hilt. She is 21 years old, single, and has no experience in engagement. That¡¯s very unusual.¡± Ewoldan said his personal opinion for no reason because the paper with only a few lines was shabby. ¡°If it¡¯s about distinct characteristics, she is most famous for her appearance and is called a rare beauty. In addition, she has outstanding skills in vocal music, piano performance, embroidery, and horseback riding. She is also interested in practical studies.¡± ¡°Is it practical magic studies?¡± Ewoldan shook his head when Nicklaus intervened. ¡°Magic is a study that is hard to be interested in without natural talent. It¡¯s practical studies such as math, geometry, and astrology.¡± His master squeezed his mouth as if he was sorry for something. Ewoldan continued. ¡°Her closest friend is Lady Pemollo, but¡¡± ¡°But?¡± Ewoldan paused for a moment. He collected only what all social ladies and children would know, but didn¡¯t conduct background checks using illegal methods. Nevertheless, he felt uncomfortable to mention the deep part of her private life. Chapter 1.7 - – The Man in The Terrace (7) Chapter 1 ¨C The Man in The Terrace (7) Count Solandry, whom he served for two-generation, was different from other ordinary noble families. He had served as a butler, nanny, aide, and nanny, but he had never done anything like checking other¡¯s backgrounds or maneuvering in an invisible place. Making his master¡¯s life more prosperous was what he had done for the past few decades. Therefore, it was very perplexing for him to recite the love story of one¡¯s daughter who was a maiden. Ewoldan coughed in vain as if trying to stick a paper beside money. Nicklaus, who was short-tempered, spoke in a curt voice. (T/n: there¡¯s no use to compare paper and money. So it¡¯s useless.) ¡°You said she is her closest friend, so what?¡± ¡°Lady Hilt is said to have been dating Sir Bielvardo for over a year.¡± Nicklaus¡¯ face hardened in an instant. Why did this story come out of the blue? ¡°It seems they were quite well-known lovers. However, it became known that Sir Bielvardo and Lady Pemollo got engaged a while ago. It was quite a tough rumor to hear for the lady at the marriageable age.¡± ¡°So what?¡± ¡°The story I am going to tell you is about a man who is dating the lady Pemollo, she is known as Alaina¡¯s closest friend¡.¡± It was a story too shameful for Ewoldan to put into his mouth. He silently apologized to Lady Hilt, whom he had never seen before. Nicklaus asked abruptly. ¡°Are you saying she stole him?¡± ¡°Yes.¡± ¡°That¡¯s great.¡± Ewoldan, who is entirely on his master¡¯s side, agreed but it was difficult to respond to the overly blatant response. Ewoldan opened his mouth only after clearing his throat. ¡°Anyway, she secluded herself inside the house for two months due to that incident. I guess the banquet that the master attended before was her first outing in a while.¡± ¡°Then what should I do now?¡± Nicklaus closed his eyes with a distressed face. However, Ewoldan had no advice on this matter. A butler is a position where he is in charge of all of the affairs in the family, so he was also involved in social gatherings such as tea parties when his Countess was alive. Of course, he was familiar with how to please the ladies and their way of thinking. But that was already more than 20 years ago. While taking care of a bad-tempered boy, his sensitivity gradually shifted direction. It was difficult to show wisdom when it came to the love of young people, especially for a love¡¯s newbie like Nicklaus. Instead of coming forward in person, he advised in the other direction. ¡°I think it would be a good idea to ask the young people in the tower for advice.¡± The tower he refers to was the tower of wizards, that tower. Among the students who graduated from the magic schools in each country, only the most talented people could enter the tower of wizards and receive their own laboratory. Rumors have been circulating that wizards at the tower have strange personalities, but the fact that wasn¡¯t exactly the case could be seen through the previous owner. In addition, the young people at the tower have been looking over him so they might come up with a more suitable plan. Nicklaus had a bitter face, but soon nodded his head as if convinced. He approached the magic circle on one side of the office to make plans as soon as possible. In no time, blue light emanated from under his feet and his figure disappeared. Ewoldan didn¡¯t do much research, but he was grateful that his master figured it out by himself. The place where Nicklaus moved through the magic circle was his laboratory in the tower. One of the researchers who felt his presence raised his head. He was that kind of man whose glasses on one side of his face were bent severely, making his sideburn float above his ear. He fixed his glasses and spoke to Nicklaus. ¡°Why do you go home so often these days?¡± ¡°Do you need a reason for people to go home?¡± ¡°¡. I¡¯m only asking because you¡¯re always stuck in the lab. That kind of reason didn¡¯t apply to the master of the tower.¡± Nicklaus ignores his words and habitually wears the lab coat. Being ignored was a common occurrence, so the man was again engrossed in his work. However, because his boss did something crazy that was different from his usual antics, his concentration was broken. He was used to his boss making rude remarks and throwing tantrums, but it was crazy to see him running around the lab, hitting his thighs on the desk, dropping things, also stumbling over the things he dropped, and jumping up and down in the corner. ¡°Why are you being like this? It scares me.¡± ¡°Sincio¡± ¡°Yes. Please speak. No, please sit down first then speak.¡± ¡°Do you even know how to date?¡± What kind of nonsense is that? Sincio, who just noticed his sky-high sideburn, pressed down on it and frowned. What the heck do you mean ¡®do you know how to date?¡¯ If someone else had asked, he would have taken it as an insult to his dating ability, but that person was Nicklaus Solandry. Isn¡¯t dating an act of meeting with two different personalities and sharing physical and mental exchanges with each other? However, his boss was a man who told him to stay away because he didn¡¯t have anything to give him, even though he only grabbed the hem of his coat to help put out the fire on it. He couldn¡¯t believe such a person would suddenly put the word ¡®dating¡¯ in his mouth. He got goosebumps on the back of his neck for a moment. Sincio spoke with a reluctant look. ¡°Why do you ask that?¡± ¡°¡nevermind. You don¡¯t know a thing about dating.¡± He couldn¡¯t believe that words come from Nicklaus Solandry, not anyone else. Sincio put his glasses over his head and shot him a deathly glare. Nicklaus frowned and coldly glanced at him. ¡°What are you doing with your small eyes?¡± ¡°Don¡¯t you see these fiery eyes? If wizard-nim does this, everyone will keep saying ¡®wizard-nim¡¯ until they faint.¡± ¡°You didn¡¯t actually believe that guy¡¯s words, right.¡± Out of nowhere Leo, another wizard in Nicklaus¡¯ lab shook his head from side to side. He was a man with greasy mid-length hair that was part in the middle, although he looked greasy, his facial features were quite incredible. ¡°It¡¯s shameful that you receive dating advice from this Balileo Balilei.¡± (T/n: It is actually Galileo Galilei, the philosopher. So Leo¡¯s saying Sincio is a fake one, hence the Balileo Balilei) ¡°When the hell did you come in?¡± ¡°What are you talking about? I¡¯ve been here since before the master of the tower came.¡± Leo was famous for his free-spirited love life, he once took women to the tower in the name of ¡®civilian tour to enhance the reputation of the tower¡¯, his personality was severely broken by Nicklaus. After that, he looked trustworthy to Nicklaus. When Leo appeared with a smile and was pleased as if dog poop for medicine fell from the sky. ¡°Okay. Go recite what you¡¯ve been working on.¡± Nicklaus sat on the chair in an arrogant manner. However, Leo had no intention of passing on the secret recipe from his own mouth. Moreover, why his boss suddenly asked things about dating relationships, that would certainly warrant his growing curiosity. ¡°But why are you curious about that?¡± ¡°That¡¯s¡¡.¡± ¡°No way!¡± ¡°Really?¡± ¡°Reaaaaally?¡± Another researcher who hid somewhere in the lab, Normel joined the forces. ¡°Very observant.¡± Nicklaus spat a begrudging remark, but the three of them realized it was an affirmation. He finally found it. The fated woman. Their boss was often misunderstood as a man who did witchcraft outside the tower, but all the researchers knew it wasn¡¯t true. It was because every time a new recruit came in, that story was passed down from mouth to mouth as if it were a legend. About Nicklaus¡¯ curse. Whenever a new employee came in, Nicklaus would personally hand over a lab coat embroidered with ¡®the tower of the wizards¡¯ sentence. Each time, the newcomers felt immense happiness, but within seconds they had to experience the unexpected nature of their boss. After going through that series of processes, they would wonder what¡¯s wrong with that human being, and then a senior researcher came to whisper an open secret. So in recent years, the new wizards who entered the tower of wizards have built a bond through a new kind of initiation ceremony. Somehow the words got longer but in summary, all the wizards gathered here knew about his problems. Therefore, they had no choice but to be shocked. ¡®I pity the woman who will receive the attention of that human.¡¯ That was their innermost feeling that couldn¡¯t be shown. So the four of them were seated around the round table. ¡°So, who is she?¡± Asked the woman with brown hair tied into a ponytail. She was Normel Odineri, the only woman in a lab that was led by Nicklaus. ¡°If I tell you, would you know?¡± ¡°How do I give advice if I don¡¯t even know who she is?¡± ¡°It¡¯s a law ¡®know your enemy and know yourself, and you will never be defeated¡¯. Shouldn¡¯t we know the target?¡± ¡°Enemy? Target? Do you think I¡¯m going to invade other people¡¯s military camps?¡± ¡°Metaphor, that is only a metaphor.¡± Nicklaus clicked his tongue while looking at each of their faces. However, this reaction was not enough to hurt those at the tower. Rather, the three of them pulled their chairs forward with sparkling eyes. Said Sincio while fixing his glasses. ¡°Now, stop fussing and tell me.¡± ¡°¡You will go through bad things If you go around talking about it.¡± Bad things were still happening every day. They quickly nodded. ¡°A woman named Alaina Hilt.¡± Silence flowed for a while. ¡°That¡¯s nonsense!¡± ¡°Are you talking about the young lady of Count Hilt?¡± ¡°Why? Who is it? Is she part of royalty?¡± Leo, Sincio, and Normel reacted in turn. For Leo and Normel who were born in the nobility, they knew about the young lady of Count Hilt. Of course, a successful commoner like Sincio didn¡¯t know about her, but he guessed that she was part of the nobility because that arrogant Nicklaus referred to her formally. Obviously, he found out that she was a count¡¯s daughter after Normel asked about it. Meanwhile, Nicklaus felt relieved that there was not a single person who didn¡¯t know her. He even went around looking for her but still didn¡¯t know who she was, if he was a woman, wouldn¡¯t he feel disappointed. ¡°Right.¡± As Nicklaus affirmed identity, Leo rubbed his palms and said. ¡°It¡¯s not going to be easy, but that¡¯s why it will stimulate your competitive side.¡± ¡°What do you mean?¡± ¡°Would it be easy to win the heart of Lady Hilt, the flower of society? But it¡¯s no fun if it¡¯s too easy.¡± ¡°You think I brought this up to entertain you? It was this body¡¯s wish for a lifetime!¡± That¡¯s why it was fun. It was already funny to think that Nicklaus Solandry would embarrass himself to look good for someone. ¡°Have you seen her? No, I mean, since you found out it was her, you probably have seen her. So, how did you meet her?¡± Normel asked what everyone was wondering about. Although Nicklaus was annoyed, he had no choice but to tell them what happened at the banquet, because the three of them took turns and told him that they needed to know the whole story to plan a strategy. ¡°¡¡I wish you didn¡¯t say anything.¡± ¡°I know.¡± ¡°You didn¡¯t make a good first impression.¡± ¡°I know that too.¡± ¡°See you should¡¯ve controlled your usual temper¡.¡± ¡°Cut it out, will you?¡± Ahem. After the cough party, Leo pointed out one thing. ¡°By the way, are you sure she is not in a relationship with Sir Ismal?¡± ¡°I have checked with her brother.¡± ¡°What?¡± There was an additional explanation again for how he met her younger brother. The three of them had their jaws hanging open at their boss¡¯ initiative. Chapter 1.8 Chapter 1 ¨C The Man in The Terrace (8) ¡°Planning abruptly¡ You¡¯ve done a great job.¡± ¡°But don¡¯t let your guard down. As you know, he¡¯s an ¡®Ismal¡¯.¡± Nicklaus frowned as if the name was unpleasant. It was because his annoyance had surged up, to think that Ismal might bother him and ask him for a duel. No, regardless of that, if Sir Ismal had the same nature as that sister, he would have to be extremely wary. It was due to the fact that he personally experiences someone he hates that keeps sticking close to him. It would be a disaster if he had bad intentions towards Alaina. While he thought so, he suddenly felt impatient. Having listened enough to the possible scenario, Nicklaus threatened his subordinates to come up with useful advice. The first one to give advice was Normel. As she was the only woman there, her remarks seemed to have some credibility to it. ¡°First of all, find out the location of a gathering that she often attends or a place that she likes to visit, and then you need to make a good impression. First impressions have a big impact on judging people¡¯s personality. In other words, we need to revamp your image slowly by creating several opportunities to meet her.¡± It was reasonable advice, even for Nicklaus who was not familiar with how the relationship between humans worked. The problem was Alaina had been staying away from all outings for months. Nicklaus let out a grunting noise and nodded. Then Leo, a self-proclaimed ladies¡¯ expert, held up his hand. ¡°I think differently.¡± ¡°I¡¯m listening.¡± ¡°People are naturally attracted to strangers.¡± Nicklaus, who seemed not interested at all, wore an expression that said ¡®So?¡¯ ¡°What would happen if the first time you had seen her at the terrace, the master of the tower handed a handkerchief to her and said ¡®Are you okay, lady?¡¯ What¡¯s with this guy? Why is the scent on the handkerchief so sweet? What is that handsome person thinking about now? While both of you are thinking the same thoughts, wouldn¡¯t she start having expectations of the stranger who suddenly approached her?¡± Sincio furrowed his brows as it was hard to stand the cringe that was being spoken. But the boss, whom he thought would have reacted the same way, seemed to be falling for Leo¡¯s words. ¡°Is, is that so?¡± ¡°If you don¡¯t believe me, trust the discerning eyes of the women I¡¯ve brought over.¡± ¡®Having expectations of him¡¯. How nice would it be if she was expecting him. Before he knew it, he was interested in Leo¡¯s words as much as Normel¡¯s. Nicklaus licked his lips and asked, ¡°Then what am I supposed to do? I shouldn¡¯t visit her too often?¡± ¡°You could take advantage of the greatest weapon that can be used at the beginning, your mysterious persona. In an unprepared situation, you should show up when she¡¯s not expecting it at all. After the sudden impression like that, you should give her some time alone.¡± ¡°Time?¡± ¡°I mean time to remember. You should give her time to reminisce about the brief encounter and let the expectation build up. If you keep showing up like Normel says, that will be too obvious and embarrassing for you. A man like that is not attractive! I guarantee it with my years of experience.¡± Nicklaus ponders around the conflicting opinions. Was the cause of his pondering because both of their opinions were reasonable? He looked like a person that¡¯s devoted to making crucial decisions. Receiving the boss¡¯ burdensome gaze, Sincio held his sideburns tightly and struggled. Earlier, everyone was bluffing that they could collapse with just one glance, but it was a joke. He wasn¡¯t a woman nor a man who knew women well. If he could express his opinion in such a situation, he would not have been stuck in the lab every weekend. In the end, Sincio rubbed his nose and avoided his gaze. ¡°I don¡¯t really have a big idea.¡± ¡°Useless.¡± ¡°¡¡¡± That¡¯s why the boss was hammering about whether I have a knack for dating or not. Sincio, not knowing why he felt humiliated, opened his mouth. ¡°Then at first, as Leo said, create a mysterious and accidental encounter. And when it seems to work, do as Normel said, slowly leave a good impression.¡± ¡°Useful.¡± His reputation was rapidly restored. Sincio smiled happily. All that was left was to make a plan. They had to come up with the plan to steal the woman¡¯s heart. ¡°What can I do to leave a good impression?¡± There was a whirl of silence. Sincio was embarrassed by the question itself, so his face twitched. While touching his chin, Leo spoke. ¡°We need to know something. Like what she likes and dislikes, personality, family circumstances, any relationship, or her interests. Or is there any sudden change of heart? Don¡¯t we need to know these details to give advice?¡± It was indeed a valid point. He already got some information about Alaina from Ewoldan. Doesn¡¯t that mean he is approaching this the right way? Nicklaus recited everything he had learned earlier without missing a single thing. Leo, who was giving such contrived responses like ¡®I see, oho, it should be like this¡¯, at one point, banged on the table. ¡°This is it.¡± ¡°What?¡± ¡°That¡¯s it.¡± ¡°Why don¡¯t you just say it in brackets instead, if possible?¡± ¡°I just had a good idea.¡± ¡°So tell me what it is!¡± Fortunately, perhaps Leo¡¯s sense of survival kicked in, since he spoke without further ado. ¡°Broken hearted, what does a person who has been shamefully betrayed want?¡± ¡°I despise koan.¡± (T/n: koan is a riddle or puzzle that Zen Buddhist use to unravel greater truths about the world and themselves during meditation.) ¡°It¡¯s to show in front of those guys that ¡®I¡¯m very happy right now and I¡¯m quite busy enjoying my life, so I don¡¯t have time to care about you¡¯. For instance, by showing that she is currently dating a man who¡¯s more marvelous than the man who broke her heart.¡± This time, Normel nodded her head as if agreeing. Sincio also joined in on the bandwagon and eagerly nodded his head. However, Nicklaus creased his forehead, there was still something that bothered him. ¡°But what kind of steps should be taken to show that we¡¯re currently in a relationship in those gatherings? It¡¯s not like a snake eating its tail.¡± (T/n: snake eating its tail is also known as ouroboros, which is interpreted as a symbol of cycle for eternal cyclic renewal or a cycle of life, death, and rebirth. So for this context, the relationship couldn¡¯t happen easily like ouroboros.) ¡°Hooh.¡± It was Normel who let out a theatrical laugh. This situation was all too familiar for Normel. A subject material that was commonly found in popular novels that she enjoyed reading. It is called ¡¸ a contract relationship¡¹. In reality, Normel Odineri had a common view of romance, but since such a dramatic subject appeared, she was willing to give bold advice. Normel pulled up one corner of her mouth and said. ¡°It¡¯s been awhile since I¡¯ve had something in common with Balileo.¡± ¡°I told you to say it in brackets.¡± ¡°Let me explain it. It is a contractual relationship under a mutual agreement.¡± ¡°What?¡± ¡°I never thought I¡¯d have to say those words out loud either.¡± As she said that, his smile looked somewhat sinister. Nicklaus turned his face away from the face he didn¡¯t want to bruise. And then he asked Leo. ¡°Do you have the same thought?¡± ¡°Yes.¡± What on earth are in these guys¡¯ heads? But it was a pity that he couldn¡¯t leave this situation. Nicklaus clicked his tongue and explained. ¡°You guys must have forgotten, but this body is supposed to share ¡®true¡¯ love with her? Don¡¯t talk about unheard-of words like a contract relationship as if it was groundbreaking.¡± It was Sincio, who had been quiet for a long time, that had reacted to his words. ¡°Isn¡¯t the purpose of a contract about getting what each other wants? And if it¡¯s a mutually beneficial relationship, wouldn¡¯t you develop a good feeling in the process? At the beginning it was a contractual relationship, but I think it could be used as a stepping stone to build a close relationship.¡± He was another student in the Introduction to Relationship class, who was pretending to not listen to it. And with the current spoken statement, it would at least be graded an A. In order for Nicklaus to escape grade F, he needed to get his act together now. Because grade F meant pitifully dying at a young age. Normel looked at Sincio as if she was proud of him. On the other hand, Leo was staring at Nicklaus while wondering if he had seen such a frustrating gentleman before. It was a crisis. Nicklaus decided to look at the proposal in the positive light for now. But the problem was how to make it. ¡°How do you make a contractual relationship?¡± He even asked them to advise him. Leo spoke while shaking his head. ¡°How about I draw up a contract and take you to young Lady Hilt? I could also act as a witness for both of you.¡± ¡°I¡¯d appreciate it.¡± Nicklaus was even showing a rare smile. It seems that he didn¡¯t even understand that it was a joke. He was a human who couldn¡¯t communicate with others. Sincio spoke on behalf of speechless Leo. ¡°That¡¯s what it means to be in a contractual relationship, not to write an actual contract and stamp a seal on it. Shouldn¡¯t you just ¡®pretend to be in a relationship¡¯ so Sir Biel whatever-his-name-is and Lady Duke¡¯s nose can be flattened and young Lady Hilt can stand up? And that¡¯s how both of you got close.¡± It suddenly went from grade A to A+. Normel nodded violently with a relieved face. Only then he realized that Leo¡¯s words earlier were nothing more than sarcasm. ¡°You bastard¡. Were you being sarcastic?¡± ¡°That¡¯s impossible. Why do you say such an aggressive word like ¡®bastard¡¯?¡± Nicklaus stepped back. ¡°I¡¯ll forgive you.¡± ¡°..Ah, yes.¡± ¡°Instead, think about what you can do about that contract relationship.¡± His boss was adamant. At this rate, he should just ask for marriage instead. Fortunately, Normel joined in before he could make another fuss. ¡°I¡¯m telling you this out of frustration, you can¡¯t just go and say ¡®it is a contractual relationship¡¯.¡± ¡°I¡¯ve thought that far.¡± ¡°¡let¡¯s just say that you were surprised.¡± ¡°Don¡¯t mess around, Normel.¡± Normel shrugged her shoulders. ¡°Let me advise you based on my abundant indirect experience¡¡± Starting from then, a great deal of know-how tips were said. Nicklaus stuck his tongue out at her erudition. As expected, the tower¡¯s talent was different. Her exoskeleton tendency was not only displayed in the laboratory. She was revealing how recklessly she had been reading romance novels. When her story was finally over, even Leo looked like he had learned a lesson. ¡°Now, you understand right?¡± Normel looked white as a sheet as if she worked too hard, she sipped the tea that Sincio gave to her. Nicklaus was also busy organizing the information that had been poured in at once, but he didn¡¯t let out any remark. ¡°Good work.¡± It was a word that they didn¡¯t hear even when they did an experiment all night for three days. The three of them expressed their rising love and affection(?) as they felt the emotion rushing in. ¡°I wish you good luck!¡± ¡°If it goes well, please invite the young Lady Hilt to the lab.¡± ¡°If all goes well, shouldn¡¯t we get a bonus?¡± The last remark was said by Sincio. The master didn¡¯t like it, but decided to take it as a cheer. Nicklaus, who left the lab like that, was no longer the former virgin Nicklaus Solandry. No. He was still a virgin, but he was reborn regardless. As a scheming man. Anyway, the scheming Nicklaus returned to the mansion to put his plan into action. Chapter 2.1 - The Birth of The Scheming Man (1) Chapter 2 ¨C The Birth of The Scheming Man (1) Translator/Editor: Silvia/Sarcasm ¡°What?¡± Alaina opened her already big eyes wider. ¡°Princess, no, Her Majesty told me to tell you so.¡± Demian¡¯s words, which came into the room out of the blue, were surprising. ¡°Her Majesty¡± that he spoke of was Princess Syrmendi, who married the monarch of the neighbouring country and became the queen. The princess is 25 years old this year, and since she moved to the neighbouring country because of her national marriage a few years ago, Alaina had not seen her face for a very long time. They had known each other even before the national marriage, but Alaina was too young to be considered a close friend. However, the princess who visited her parents for the first time in years, invited Alaina to the palace. Of course it wouldn¡¯t be a private meeting, but it was still a surprise. It was a proper comeback for Alaina, who had long been absent from any social gatherings. Of course, she didn¡¯t really want to socialize with people yet, but she didn¡¯t want to worry her family so what else could she do. She had to go out, meet and talk to some people, and also get rid of the cobwebs in her mouth. Alaina asked, feeling a little nervous. ¡°When is it? Do you know who else is coming?¡± It was a question that was very conscious of Riley Pemollo. But her younger brother only shrugged his shoulders. He didn¡¯t know the exact thing as he heard it from his friend, the prince. ¡°There will be a formal invitation soon.¡± Sure enough it wasn¡¯t long before the formal invitation arrived. After ripping off the wax seal that was engraved with the royal family¡¯s crest, an invitation with gold leaf was revealed. As she had heard before, this was sent by Princess Syrmendi, no, it was sent by Queen Syrmendi. It was for a tea party after the award ceremony for the upcoming day of the sword competition. The sword competition was a big spectacle, surely a lot of nobles would come. It didn¡¯t seem to be a special invitation as she thought earlier. ¡°It¡¯s going to be an eventful day then.¡± If she hadn¡¯t received such an invitation, she wouldn¡¯t even have attended it no matter how interesting the spectacle is. It was because it was clear that Idrian Bielvardo would shine as the fourth winner like the previous year. No, would he just show his face? There was no law that prohibited them from participating again just because they were the previous year winners. Normally, if there was no way to go higher, she wouldn¡¯t go for it over and over again. However, to the knights, it was a different matter. If a knight turned blue for fear of not winning, surely the knight would be a laughing stock for people. They instead participated in a fair and square duel. It was the honor of the low level knights to participate in the good-natured competition for mutual development by neatly surrendering and giving up their place if they lost. Of course, there were people who won consecutively in a row, so Idrian must have been working hard for it. Or he could have fallen in love with the young lady Pemollo, who would give him the title of duke as a dowry, and threw away his knighthood for it. Alaina snorted and folded the invitation neatly, then placed it in the drawer. The Duke of Pemollo must be crazy too. No matter how much the only daughter was raised as his prized possession, how dare he pass down the title to his son-in-law while ignoring his blood relatives. Well, it wasn¡¯t Alaina¡¯s business, but if their ancestors, who were granted the title by doing merits, knew, they would grab the back of their necks in anger. It was not until she fully thought ill of Idrian, Riley, and even the Duke of Pemollo that she went on with her daily life. After days of freedom filled with happiness, one bright day in July dawned. It was the day of the sword competition. The people of the Hilt family also left early to the detached palace. The detached palace that was given by the royal palace was closer to a perfect party hall. Built next to the amphitheatre, it was called the palace but it was actually a place for the nobles rather than the royal family. The amphitheatre was used to hold today¡¯s sword competitions, as well as events open to the general public such as the coronation and triumphal ceremonies. Therefore, the nobles needed a place to stay in order to avoid being among the crowd, so the detached palace was built for that purpose. In the garden connected to the detached palace, there was a bridge that allowed royalty and nobles to enter directly into the amphitheatre. However, there was still plenty of time before the competition started, so the nobles gathered in the detached palace and chatted. Of course, among them was Alaina. She had her father and brother on either side. The three of them strolled through the garden surrounding the detached palace and talked about it. It was reassuring to be together with her family. But that didn¡¯t last very long. Count Hilt was a well-established gentleman, no, it¡¯s more like he was an aristocrat. He soon left his two children and went to chat with people of his age. Most girls would be happy to see that. It would be inconvenient and uncomfortable for an adult to spend all day with her father. But Alaina, who wasn¡¯t like other girls, crossed her arms in discontent. And it wasn¡¯t long before Demian left her side too. As soon as the prince arrived, her brother ran away as if he didn¡¯t care about his sister. That unfaithful fellow. Somehow, she felt something troublesome would happen. She should move to a quieter place before someone tries to talk to her. That was what she planned until, ¡°Ari.¡± Someone called her name. It was a very familiar voice. Besides, there aren¡¯t many people that were allowed to call her by her nickname. Alaina shut her eyes tightly and looked back. ¡°Long time no see. Are you doing well?¡± (T/N: This wench, b**ch; E/N: All in favour of beating the sh*t out of that b**ch, say ¡°Aye!¡±) ¡°Is there anything that makes me not well?¡± She wanted to act brave, but she couldn¡¯t bring herself to speak with a friendly voice. Still, it was a good defense because there was no anger behind her voice. Riley spoke abominably without erasing the smile on her face, as if she had no shame. ¡°I was very worried because you didn¡¯t attend the recital and kept refusing any invitation to parties.¡± Worried? What a load of bullshit. Isn¡¯t hitting the back of someone¡¯s head enough to get her point across, why did she come and say something ridiculous? Should she retort that because of Riley, she felt skeptical about everything in the world? Or should she say ¡®Oh my, thanks to you, I am fine.¡¯? She didn¡¯t like either one of them. Because, it was impossible to deceive that girl. That girl will already know what¡¯s going on in her mind. So she would laugh at Alaina whether she reveals or hides it. Damn it. In this situation, the one who thinks a lot loses. She didn¡¯t even respond but was already hit. Alaina smiled silently. Although anger was rising from the bottom of her stomach, she could still easily manage her facial expression. She was still thinking what to say, but unexpectedly Riley¡¯s expression cracked slightly. It was only for a short time, but there was no way that she couldn¡¯t recognize it as it happened in front of her. Why? She didn¡¯t even open her mouth yet though? Was her smiling face unlucky? But before Alaina could fathom it, Riley opened her mouth first. ¡°Anyway, I¡¯m glad you look good.¡± No matter what Riley did, she looked miserable, now it was a fight that she couldn¡¯t win. Riley talked well on her own, she twitched her lips as if she was going to talk again. But the words that came out of that little mouth were far beyond common sense. ¡°Are you seeing anyone these days?¡± Why? If she said no, is she going to introduce someone to Alaina? Alaina couldn¡¯t bear to hold her smile because the back of her head was numb. It was at that moment when Riley tried to open her mouth again. ¡°Hello¡± Suddenly, a tall man stepped in between the two women. While Alaina still felt her lips trembling, she hastily moved her gaze. It was because Alaina thought she would do something bad if she saw Riley¡¯s face even for a second more. ¡°I am the Count of Solandry, Nicklaus Solandry.¡± Alaina, who was stiff, dazedly looked up at the man¡¯s face. The smooth face that she had seen before was glued to Alaina, as if he didn¡¯t care about Riley. ¡°May I dare to ask for the name of a beautiful lady?¡± There was silence. Alaina slowly blinks her eyes. It was not a polite silence, but the man waited patiently. Alaina wondered why this man was here and why he was speaking in such a polite manner. That man was the man who handed her the handkerchief on the terrace at the prince¡¯s birthday banquet. To be precise, he was a man who spoke informally to someone he just met for the first time. That was more than a month ago. The fact that she remembered his face was even more embarrassing. But what did that person just say, for sure¡¡ Alaina opened her eyes wide and breathed in. The man was looking down at her with a piercing look. As if possessed by the intense gaze, her lips opened on their own accord. Her mouth spewed out a familiar name. ¡°I am Alaina Hilt.¡± At the same time, she began to recount the history of how she got that name. Her mind was spinning like crazy. The past 21 years of her life flew by like turning the pages of a book and landed on the first page. Nicklaus Solandry. The main character of ¡¸The Curse of The Witch¡¹ and the reason why she was born in this world. That was him? The scorching sun of a summer day was shining brightly on his silver hair. A gentle smile that had never been seen before spread across his face. Alaina looked vacantly at the man. With the sun shining like a halo, he was shining splendidly. While she was losing her mind, Nicklaus grabbed her hand and kissed the back of it. After a brief kiss, he took a step closer and stood beside her. It wasn¡¯t the right distance for facing each other. She even had to tilt her head back because he was too close. Alaina took the trouble of tilting her head without realizing it. But he was not looking at her. Slowly turning his head, he looked down at Riley¡¯s face for a while. As Riley received his attention and was about to politely greet him, his expression suddenly changed. He returned to his arrogant face in an instant and twisted his lips, as if asking who she was and why she was still here. Perhaps it wasn¡¯t only Alaina who felt that way, even Riley who had a good smile also looked bewildered. But she wasn¡¯t the one who lost her dignity over this. Riley greeted him calmly with a hand on her chest.
